The basics

What exactly is a CO₂ laser tube refill — and why does it pay off?

A CO₂ laser tube refill (also called laser tube recharging) is the professional restoration of a worn laser tube. Instead of replacing the entire unit, we re-establish the original gas mixture, inspect the electronics and optics, realign the resonator and verify the result with a calibrated power test. The outcome: near-factory output at a fraction of the cost of a brand-new tube.

Over time, every CO₂ laser tube loses output — the gas mixture degrades, optical surfaces collect contamination, the resonator drifts out of alignment and electrodes show wear. With high-quality industrial laser systems (think Synrad, Iradion, Coherent), the mechanical body and the bulk of the electronics typically remain in excellent condition. That is exactly where our refill service comes in: we extract the maximum remaining service life from your existing tube before you have to spend several thousand euros on a replacement that, in many cases, simply isn't necessary.

  • 01
Inbound diagnostics & measurement Initial inspection of gas pressure, vacuum integrity and core electronic parameters
  • 02
Recharging with the original gas mixture CO₂, N₂, He and Xe in tube-specific ratios, prepared under cleanroom conditions
  • 03
Resonator alignment & optics service Micrometre-level mirror alignment plus thorough cleaning of all optical components
  • 04
Power test & documentation Calibrated output measurement and a written service report with full before/after comparison
Operator advantages

Why a CO₂ laser tube refill is the smart choice

Cost-efficient, environmentally sound and engineered to industrial standards — refilling is the rational alternative to replacing a perfectly serviceable laser tube.

Significant cost savings

A refill typically costs only 30 to 50 percent of a brand-new tube. For high-end RF tubes that translates into savings of several thousand euros per unit — money you can put back into production instead of into procurement.

up to 50 % cheaper than buying new

Fast turnaround

Refill and repair within 3 to 7 working days. For exchange tubes already in stock we ship same- or next-day across Germany and Europe — keeping unplanned downtime on your laser system to an absolute minimum.

3–7 working days · 24h dispatch on exchange

12-month warranty

Every professional refill is backed by up to 12 months of functional warranty. You receive a written service report, calibrated power log and complete documentation — no fine print, no surprises down the line.

up to 12 months functional warranty

Sustainable by design

Reuse instead of remanufacture: a refill cuts costs and at the same time avoids the CO₂ emissions caused by new-tube production and intercontinental freight. A real, measurable contribution to the circular economy.

drastically reduced carbon footprint
Direct comparison

Refill vs. new laser tube — the numbers, side by side

An honest comparison of both options. Use it to make the right call for your laser machine — both technically and financially.

Criterion CO₂ Laser Refill New Laser Tube
Acquisition cost approx. 30–50 % less expensive full price (often 4-figure sum per tube)

Service scope

What is included in every CO₂ laser tube refill

Our refill goes far beyond simply topping up the gas mixture — we deliver a complete technical overhaul of your laser tube and the components surrounding it.

RF & DC electronics testing

Full functional check of the high-frequency or high-voltage electronics: excitation, control, safety and protection circuits. Faulty components are reworked or replaced as part of the same service ticket — no separate repair appointment needed.

Precision resonator alignment

Micrometre-level alignment of the optical resonator. Correct alignment is the foundation for stable beam quality and maximum output power — the smallest deviations cost real watts on your cutting bed.

Leak test & vacuum integrity check

Both before and after every refill, we verify vacuum integrity. Micro-leaks at glass feedthroughs, seals or electrode passes are reliably detected and, in most cases, repaired in the same workshop visit.

Recharge with original gas mix

Your tube is recharged with the original gas mixture specified for your laser type — CO₂, nitrogen (N₂), helium (He) and xenon (Xe), precisely dosed in line with the manufacturer's documentation for that exact model.

Optics cleaning & replacement

Cleaning and re-alignment of internal mirrors and output couplers. Where optics can no longer be reconditioned, we replace them — we keep spare parts in stock for almost every common laser system.

Service report & final power test

A final test of all electrical parameters plus the laser output is performed under real operating load. You receive a detailed service report with calibrated before/after measurement values — fully traceable.

On-site service available

On request we can travel to your facility anywhere in Germany or Europe to handle removal, reinstallation, beam alignment and the final functional test directly on your live system — including a hands-on briefing for your operators.

Installation video on request

To make the reinstallation straightforward, we can send you a detailed installation video via WeTransfer — explaining every step from removing the old tube to fine-tuning the beam path on your specific machine type.

9 signs your laser tube needs a refill

If your CO₂ laser shows one or more of these symptoms, a refill is almost always the smarter call — both technically and financially — than buying a brand-new tube.

01
Cutting power has dropped The machine no longer cuts cleanly through the same material in a single pass — you have to slow down dramatically or run several passes to get through.
02
Inconsistent engraving results Engraving depth varies across the work area, letters or fine lines look uneven or slightly blurred even though your job file is unchanged.
03
Cycle times are getting longer You have to reduce feed rates and increase output power to reach the same results you used to get with the tube when it was new.
04
Power supply running hot The driver electronics audibly or measurably operate close to their thermal limit — a clear indicator of higher losses inside the tube.
05
Visible corrosion at connectors Discolouration, residue or outgassing on the electrode terminals or the glass-to-metal feedthroughs of the tube.
06
Discoloured or unstable beam Pilot beam or test pulses show colour, intensity or mode deviations from the original behaviour you remember from when the system was commissioned.
07
Output power well below spec A direct power measurement shows numbers significantly below the rated output — typically below 70 % of the original specification.
08
Frequent dropouts during operation The tube fires unreliably, the beam cuts out mid-process or modulation reacts with noticeable lag — clear signs of degraded gas mixture.
09
Long service interval The tube has been running for 3+ years without any service — even with no acute issues, this is the right moment for a preventive inspection.

Not sure whether your tube can still be refilled? Send us the type designation and a short description of what you're seeing — you'll get an honest technical assessment in return.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about CO₂ laser tube refills

The most important answers about cost, lead time, warranty and the technical side of our refill service — straight to the point.

How much does a CO2 laser tube refill cost?

A CO2 laser tube refill is typically 30 to 50 percent cheaper than buying a new tube. The exact price depends on tube type (RF or DC), output power, manufacturer (such as Synrad, Iradion, Coherent) and the condition of optics and electronics.

We provide a binding fixed-price quote within 24 hours of receiving your enquiry — no hidden costs, full transparency about exactly what is and isn't included in the service.

How long does the refill process take?

Standard turnaround time for a complete refill — covering diagnostics, recharging, alignment and the final power test — is 3 to 7 working days from the moment we receive your tube.

If you'd rather have an immediate replacement, we ship stocked exchange tubes within 24 hours across Germany and Europe. Express options are available on request.

Which laser tube manufacturers do you support?

We service almost every common CO₂ laser system on the market: Synrad (48-2, T60, T80, T100, F201, F400), Iradion (154f, 156f, 1510f, 1512f, TL2, TL3, TL4, TL6, TL8), Coherent Diamond series, Universal Laser, Eurolaser, Luxinar SR series, Trotec Speedy, Epilog Fusion, Rayjet, Gravograph, GCC LaserPro, Rofin/Trumpf, SEI Laser and many more.

If your model is not on the list, just send us the type designation — in most cases we have a solution for you.

How many times can a CO2 laser tube be refilled?

Most industrially manufactured CO₂ laser tubes can be refilled at least once, and many can be refilled several times. The deciding factors are the condition of the optics, seals and electrode contacts.

High-quality RF tubes from Synrad, Iradion or Coherent often handle 2–3 refill cycles before replacement becomes the more economical route. Glass / DC tubes typically allow fewer refills, but each refill cycle is cheaper. Before every refill we check feasibility and give you a transparent verdict on whether it makes sense to proceed.

What output power will my tube reach after the refill?

After a professional refill, most CO₂ laser tubes recover up to 95 percent of their original rated output. The exact value is measured during our final power test on calibrated equipment and documented in your service report — including a direct before/after comparison.

Compared to a tube that was running at 50–70 percent output before the refill, that's a substantial jump in usable power — at a fraction of the cost of buying new.

What warranty do you provide on a refill?

Every professionally executed refill comes with up to 12 months of functional warranty, provided the tube is installed correctly and operated within its specified electrical, optical and cooling parameters. The warranty period is documented on your service report and invoice.

In a warranty event we re-inspect the tube and — if the cause is traceable to the refill — restore correct operation at no additional cost.

How do I know my laser tube needs a refill?

Typical signs are: noticeably reduced cutting or engraving performance, inconsistent engraving results, longer cycle times at the same power setting, an overheating power supply, visible corrosion at the connectors or a discoloured, unstable beam.

If you observe any of these symptoms, a refill is usually far more cost-effective than buying a new tube. Send us your observations — you'll get an honest technical assessment back from our specialists.

What is the difference between glass tubes and RF tubes for refills?

DC glass tubes are cheaper to refill and easier to handle. Typical use case: engraving and mid-power cutting machines.

RF tubes (such as Synrad firestar, Iradion, Coherent Diamond) are technically much more complex. They require RF measurement equipment, high-vacuum stations, precise gas dosing and specialist know-how in radio-frequency excitation. We are equipped and certified for both designs.

Can I perform the refill myself?

No. A proper refill requires high-vacuum technology, precise gas mixtures prepared under cleanroom conditions, RF measurement equipment or DC high-voltage test setups, and experience in optical alignment.

Improper handling endangers your safety, will permanently damage the tube and voids any warranty. High voltage, lasing gas mixtures and 10.6 µm laser radiation are not DIY territory — leave this work to specialists with the right equipment.

What happens if my laser tube has a leak?

Every tube goes through a leak test before refilling. If we find leaks, we can usually repair seals, glass-to-metal fusions or electrode feedthroughs as part of the same service.

Should the tube no longer be economically repairable, we tell you straight away and advise on a suitable exchange unit — including a comparison quote against a new or fully refurbished tube.

How do I ship my laser tube safely to your workshop?

On request we provide our transport-safe specialist packaging with custom-fit foam inserts, designed in-house specifically for sensitive laser tubes. The packaging reliably protects against impacts and vibration during transit.

We ship via insured carriers with full tracking from door to door. On request we can also organise pickup directly from your facility.

Do you offer on-site service?

Yes. On request we travel to your facility anywhere in Germany and Europe to remove and reinstall your laser tube — including resonator alignment, briefing of your operators and a full functional test on the running system.

This option makes a lot of sense for larger industrial systems where removal and reinstallation require specialist know-how, or where you'd rather not disassemble the machine yourself. Get in touch for a quote tailored to your specific machine and location.
